Chaibasa (Jharkhand): The security personnel on Wednesday recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by banned CPI (Maoists) in a jungle near Meralgada village of naxal-affected West Singhbhum district.
The security personnel comprised of personnel from 60th battalion CRPF, 205 battalion of Cobra, Jharkhand Jaguar and district police force were engaged in an anti-naxal operation following a tip off about the presence of top Maoists leaders including Misir Besra, who was carrying a bounty of Rupees one crore on his head, in the core Kolhan area of the district.
In course of the operation, the law enforcing agencies detected the explosive near Meralgada village under Goilkera police station, which has been defused by bomb disposal squad, Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar said.
The district police jointly with para-military forces have been carrying out the operation since 11th January in core Kolhan area to flush out the left wing extremists present in the forest, he said.
SP said the operation was continuing.
