Chaibasa: Para-military and district police personnel camping in extreme naxal-hit Goilkera police station of West Singhbhum district on Sunday have brought the smiles back on the faces of villagers by gifting them Mandar and Dhol (traditional drum of tribals) amidst ensuing Maghe porob (festival).
Currently, the personnel of 60th battalion of CRPF, 203 battalion of Cobra and district armed police were stationed in the camp situated in Haathiburu and Mailippi villages, which were extremely affected by left wing extremism, under Goilkera police station limit.
In view of the ongoing Maghe festival of tribal community, the personnel of CRPF, Cobra and District Police presented the villagers of Hasthiburu and Mailippi with Mandar and Dhol as gift.
The gift was accepted by villagers with cheers and organized Maghe porob with pomp and gaiety.
The villagers invited the CRPF and police to participate on the occasion, which was celebrated with pomp and gaiety.
At present, West Singhbhum district has become a centre of activities of left wing extremist group “CPI (Maoists)”.
Top Maoists leaders including Misir Besra, who was carrying a reward of Rupees one crore on his head, Patiram Manjhi alias Anal da, Aseem Mandal, Lalchand Hembram, Mehnat alias Mochhu, Ajay Mahato and others along with their armed squad members were operating from the core Kolhan area of the district.
West Singhbhum district police have been launching operation against the extremist groups jointly with CRPF, Cobra and Jharkhand Jaguar for last six months and successfully established nine camps in remote and extreme-naxal affected area of the district.
The joint operation against the extremist forces were still going on, an official said adding that our endeavors were on to address the problems of the villagers.
