Jamshedpur: Train services of South Eastern Railway have been badly affected due to agitation by a group of people at Kustaur Station in Adra – Chandil section of Adra Division and Khemasuli station in Kharagpur-Tatanagar section of Kharagpur Division from 05.00 hrs today (05.04.2023).
However, the reasons of the agitations are not related to Railways. As a result of the agitation, the train services were badly hit as SER had to cancel 66 passenger trains including express and mail trains and many other trains were either short terminated or diverted.
In view of the agitation by Kurmi community in Khemasuli station on Kharagpur-Tatanagar section of Kharagpur division and Kustaur station on Adra-Chandil section under Adra division of South Eastern Railway, altogether 66 trains were cancelled while 12 other were short terminated/short originated.
Among trains cancelled included 13301 Dhanbad-Tatanagar Express 18183 Tatanagar-Danapur Express, 03594 Asansol-Purulia MEMU Special, 18036 Hatia-Kharagpur Express, 18035 Kharagpur-Hatia Express, 03593 Purulia-Asansol MEMU Special, 18184 Danapur-Tatanagar Express, 08647 Adra-Barabhum MEMU Special, 08049 Kharagpur-Jhargram MEMU Special, 08054 Tatanagar-Kharagpur MEMU Special, 08015 Kharagpur-Jhargram MEMU Special, 08055 Kharagpur-Tatanagar MEMU Special, 08060 Tatanagar-Kharagpur MEMU Special, 12814 Tatanagar-Howrah Steel Express, 08069 Santragachi-Jhargram MEMU Special, 12021 Howrah-Barbil Jan Shatabdi Express, 12871 Howrah-Titlagarh Express.
Among the short termination or short origination included 18011 Howrah-Adra-Chakradharpur Express will be Short Terminated at Adra (Chakradharpur portion) 12883 Santrahachi-Purulia Express will be Short Terminated at Adra, 12884 Purulia-Howrah Express will be short Originated from Adra, 22862 Kantabanji-Titlagarh-Howrah Express will be Short Terminated at Tatanagar and Short Originated as Passenger Special from Tatanagar. 08173 Asansol-Tatanagar MEMU Special will be Short Terminated at Adra, 08174 Tatanagar-Asansol MEMU Special will be Short Originated from Adra, 18012 Chakradharpur-Adra- Howrah Express will be Short Originated from Adra, 12828 Purulia-Howrah Express will be Short Originated from Adra, 08652 Asansol-Barabhum MEMU Special will be Short Terminated at Adra.
SER has also cancelled 78 trains tomorrow (6/4/2023) due the agitation.
Atogether 78 trains including mail and express trains will remain cancelled and seven trains short terminated or short origination on 06/04/2023.
Kurmis have called for indefinite road and rail blockade demanding inclusion of Kurmis in Schedule Tribe category.
Some express and mail trains were running on diverted routes.
