Adityapur (Jharkhand): A couple were on Saturday were arrested allegedly for beating a 27-year-old man to death in Shivnarayanpur area under Adityapur police station in Seraikela-Kharswan district on Saturday, a police officer said.
The accused couple have caught the victim Lolko Gope, who resides in the vicinity of Shivnaraysnpur, when he was trying to steal a battery from a tractor parked in front of the accused house around 1.30 AM of Saturday.
The owner of the tractor Putru Tudu caught Gope stealing red-handed and attacked him with a cane. On hearing the scream, Tudu’s wife to joined him and the couple thrashed Gope badly till he became unconscious.
Gope was alive but was lying unconscious till today morning. His live could have been save had been provide medical aid in time.
A police team reached the spot on Saturday morning after getting the information about the incident and shifted Gope to Sadar Hospital in Seraikela. The doctors, however, declared him brought dead, police officer said.
We have taken the couple into custody for questioning, police said.
A process to register a case in this regard by victim’s relatives was underway. We will arrest the couple after the case was formally lodged, it said.
In their confession, the couple told police that they did not had any intention to kill but it happened in a fit of raze.
The body has been sent for post-mortem.
