Jamshedpur: A man today committed suicide by jumping from old Kharkhai bridge in Bistupur under Bistupur police station here.
The victim parked his scooty and kept his mobile phone on it before he leapt from the bridge.
The incident happened so suddenly that the people passing through the bridge could not even act to prevent him from taking such extreme step.
A large number of people gathered on the spot following the incident and informed the police. Adityapur and Bistupur police teams reached the spot immediately.
The victim, who was stated to be a resident of Bagbeda, was killed instantly as the water level was very low in Kharkhai river.
Police operation to recover the body was on.
Police said the identity of the victim was yet to be established.
The motive behind the incident was not yet ascertained, police added.
