Jamshedpur: A major fire broke out in Kadma market on Monday morning gutted around two dozen shops.
The local residents spotted the flames emanating from shop around 7 am and it spread rapidly taking adjoining shops in its grip.
The fire-fighters were immediately called to douse the flames even though the shop keepers and local residents made efforts to bring the fire under control but in vain.
Over fire-fighter were pressed into services and brought the fire under control after five hours.
The exact cause of fire could not yet established.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand Health and Disaster Management Minister , who happens to be a local MLA, visited the spot and ordered for a probe.
The fire caused damage to several shop and property reduced to ashes. The loss was estimated in several lakhs.
The minister assured to provide all possible assistance to the affected shopkeepers.
