Jamshedpur: Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday staged demonstration in front of Ulidih police station here in protest against alleged eve-teasing of a woman by a youth belonging to a particular community and also beating up of BJP leader by police on Sunday.
Hundreds of BJP workers led by Jamshedpur Mahanagar Committee President Gunjan Yadav sat on dharna in front of the police station to lodge their protest against the incidents, demanding action against the erring Sub-Inspector responsible for beating Deepak Tiwari, Secretary of Mango Mandal Committe of the party.
Tiwari suffered injuries in police action when he along with his supporters had gone to the police station in support of the victim woman.
Addressing the media persons, Yadav said the victim along with her husband was learning driving two-wheeler in Kalikanagar under Ulidih police station when the youth belonging to a particular community passed lured remarks and indulged in a scuffle when she resisted.
On her return home, BJP leader alleged, the victim woman narrated the incident to her mother, who immediately rushed to the accused home in the neibourhood to complain to his parents but were beaten up and their clothes torn apart.
Following the eve-teasing incident, Yadav said the Secretary of party’s Mango Mandal Committee Deepak Tiwari had gone to Ulidih police station to register complain in favor of the victim woman but was assaulted by the police officer on-duty. Tiwari was also denied a receiving copy of the complaint.
Demanding justice for the victim, Yadav said he has spoken to the Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar and demanded for the arrest of the culprit as well as action against the Sub-Inspector on duty for beating up and injuring his party leader and supporter.
When contacted in this regard, Officer-in-Charge of Ulidih police station, Vinod Tudu said the incident was fall out over a party issue and denied any eve-teasing.
We are looking into the incident and launched a hunt to nab the culprit, who was reported at large.
A case under relevant sections of IPC has been registered in this regard, police officer added.
