Jamshedpur: The steel city of Jamshedpur on Wednesday has given a rousing welcome to a cyclist Adhiraj Barua on his return home from “Bharat bhraman” (tour India).
Adhiraj had set out for the journey on 1st October, 2021 and returned home on 1st March, 2023 after travelling about 29000 kms covering 29 states and 8 union territories of the country.
Organized by Dr. Ambedkar SC/ST/OBC/Minority Welfare Committee and Mukt Manch, the objective of Bharat Bhraman was to spread message of peace, national unity, preservation of environment and prevention of child marriage.
He also shared his experience about “unity in diversity”, different culture of the country etc.
As soon as Adhiraj arrived in the city, he paid homage to Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s bust near the Jamshedpur Civil court and then entered the city. He also garlanded the bust of tribal icon Birsa Munda and offered his obeisance near Triangular Park in Sakchi.
Ravindra Kumar, Alok Barua and Gautam Bose addressed the function organized to welcome Adhiraj.
Several organizations such as Tata Steel Foundation, Rotary Club, Lions Club, LIC, SBI Pensioners Association, Red Cross, YMCA, Indian Army, etc supported the cyclist.
The President of Jamshedpur Mahila Kalyan Samity, Anjali Bose felicitated Adhiraj in Sundarnagar.
Its worth mentioning here that Adhiraj’s father Alok Ranjan Barua too had also travelled across India on a bicycle in 1987.
Senior Barua had returned home on March 1, 1987 after covering length and width of the country during his one and half year journey.
