Jamshedpur: An Inter-state dacoit gang was busted with the arrest of its seven members including the kingpin and a goldsmith on Monday, a senior police officer said.
The arrest were made in conne yuction with a dacoity incident committed in the house of one Chavi Pursty in Badia village under Musabani police station of East Singhbhum on 14th March last, Senior Superintendent of Police, Prabhat Kumar said at a press meet here.
Kumar said a gang of criminals committed dacoity and looted cash, gold and silver jewelleries at gun point on the night of 14th March in Badia village under Ghatsila Sub-division.
A special police team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Musabani) Chandrasekhar Azad was formed in the supervision of Superintendent of Police (Rural) Mukesh Lunayat to investigate the incident.
Amidst the ongoing investigation, SSP said the team has arrested the criminals including the kingpin Rahim Khan alias Badku from various parts of the district.
In course of the preliminary interrogation, the criminals confessed that they had sold the looted gold and silver ornaments to a goldsmith identified as Manish Prasad with the help of some other criminals.
Police conducted raid in Prasad’s shop and recovered part of looted jewelleries.
A major portion of looted ornaments has been melted and sold to other jewellers, which has also been seized.
Kumar said 19 cases including three in Jhargram, West Bengal and one in Odisha were lodged agsmainst Rahim, who was continuously evading arrest.
Among 19 cases, over a dozen cases under various sections of IPC and Arms Act including murder were registered against him in various police stations of East Singhbhum district.
Jhargram, West Bengal police was in search of Rahim in regard with an Arms Act and NDPS Act, SSP said.
A pistol, two country-made fire-arms, 26 live cartridges, one knife, 78.62 grams of melted gold, four gold finger rings and a locket, a pair of ear tops, bracelet were among other items recovered.
Besides, police also seized over Rs.2.15 lakh cash, a motorcycle and 11 mobile phones from them.
Police claimed 15 cases under various police stations of East Singhbhum and Jhargram, West Bengal have been solved with the arrest of Rahim Khan.
He also expressed hope of solving recent incidents occurred in Ghatsila, Potka.
So far, 16 members of his gang members had been apprehended and forwarded to judicial custody.
