Jamshedpur: Around a fortnight after the murder of a priest in Barigora locality here, Parsudih police has cracked the case with the arrest of the victim’s live-in partner on Wednesday, police said.
The body of the priest identified as Subodh Kumar Pandey, a resident of Kharangajhad under Telco police station, was found hanging on 6th March last, police said.
Based on the evidences collected by the police in course of investigation, the Officer-in-Charge of Parsudih police station, Ram Kumar Verma said Pandey’s 37-year-old live in partner Sharda Tiwari was arrested and forwarded to judicial custody.
Police officer said Pandey was murdered on the night March 2 but his body was recovered four days later.
About the incident, police officer said Pandey had sex with the accused woman in an inebriate state but an altercation broke out between the two soon over an issue.
Pandey had threatened to commit suicide and tied his neck with Tiwari’s dupatta (stoll) against a hook. Pandey had lost his balance after Tiwari allegedly removed the stool from under his feet. She then tightened the noose around his neck till he died.
Tiwari fled the scene after locking the door from outside.
Both Pandey and Tiwari were married and having children but maintained the illicit relationship for last one year.
Confessing her crime during interrogation, Tiwari told police said she was living with Pandey for last one year.
During the period, Pandey has taken her into confidence and sold her gold ornaments and land. Whenever she demanded him to return her ornaments and land as she was facing difficulty to meet two ends, Pandey used to quarrel and beat her.
