Jamshedpur: Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, was celebrated with traditional fervour across in the steel city of Jamshedpur on Wednesday.
Also known as ‘Sobakrut’, People observed the day by consuming the traditional Ugadi ‘pachadi’ (chutney) made of raw mango, tamarind, neem flowers, jaggery, salt and black pepper powder which symbolises that life is a mixture of all emotions.
Cosmopolitan city of Jamshedpur, which has a sizable Telugu population, also have various Social and cultural organizations of the Telugu community.
The community people exchanged greetings and prayed for the welfare of the society on the occasion.
A huge number of community people along with family paid obeisance at Ram Mandir in Bistupur whereas Andhra Association has organized a cultural program at Loyola School auditorium, where artists from Srikakulam enthralled the moderate audience.
It is believed that Lord Brahma created the universe on this day. Hence, Ugadi, which stand for new beginnings, is celebrated as first day of Hindu calender.
It is also believed that Ugadi is made of two different words Yug (era) and Adi (new beginning).
