Jamshedpur: Two persons from Odisha were arrested within 12-hour after they have allegedly stolen over Rupees two lakhs kept in the dickey by the victim after he withdrew the amount from a leading nationalized bank in Baharagora under Ghatsila sub-division of East Singhbhum district yesterday, a police officer said.
A case in this regard was registered under section 379/411 IPC with Baharagora police station yesterday on the statement of the victim Sandeep Manna, a resident of Village Benda in Baharagora, police said.
Manna told police that he had withdrawn Rs.3.50 lakhs from Baharagora branch of State Bank of India and given Rs.1.30 lakhs to one of his friend of the amount while he kept the rest amount in his scooter dickey.
He than went to a medical store in Kewal village after parking his two-wheeler.
As soon as he entered the medical store, he found two persons came close to his scooter and one of them taking out Rs.2.20 lakhs cash after break open the dickey and wanted flee, police said.
He immediately raised alarm and with the help of passers-by caught hold of one identified as A Ramesh (40), a native of Aska in Ganjam district of Odisha.
Ramesh’s accomplice, however, managed to give slip and run away in his motorcycle.
Police has recovered the entire amount i.e Rs.2.20 lakh from Ramesh’s possession, police said.
On the directive of Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar, Superintendent of Police (City) K Vijay Shankar formed a police team to apprehend the other accused.
The team has conducted raid in village Purabkot under Korai police station in Jajpur district of Odisha and arrested Kalia Pradhan (35) within 12-hour of the incident.
Police also recovered the motorcycle used in committing the crime.
Police said both arrested persons are notorious criminals and several cases of snatching in Badgarh, Sambalpur, Barpada, Jharpokharia and other places of Odisha.
In course of Interrogation, police said the arrested duo confessed that they were living in rented house in Ghatsila to conduct recce in bank around premises in Jamshedpur, Musaboni, Seraikela, Ghatsila and vicinity to commit loot and snatching.
