Jamshedpur: The long-awaited dream of having a modern hostel of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur turned a reality after Union Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi on Saturday laid the foundation stone of 1300 bed capacity hostel.
The foundation for 1000 bed capacity hostel for boys and 300 bed capacity for girls was laid at a function held in the NIT campus on an auspicious Maha-Shivratri day.
The hostels will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs.125 crores.
Speaking on the occasional , the minister said I wished to visit for long and had the opportunity on the auspicious Maha-Shivratri day.
She expressed hope that the students will focus on their studies and perform better once the hostel with all modern facilities was completed.

The Director of NIT, Karunesh Kumar Shukla said the institute was badly in need of the hostel for boys and girls for long and making all possible effort to get it.
Expressing gratitude to the government for its co-operation in this regard, the Director expressed hope that the students will have the best facilities once the hostels were completed.
Meanwhile, Congress party activists stage protest after they found the name of their local Member of Parliament missing in the plaque.
The police, however, intervened and drove out the protestors raising anti-NIT slogans.
