Jamshedpur: All India India-Steel Plant Athletics Championship is being organised at the JRD Tata Sports Complex from March 25-27, 2023. Deepa Verma, Chief Human Resource Business Partner, Corporate Functions, Tata Steel graced the occasion as Chief Guest on March 25.
In a 3-day athletics sporting event more than 90 athletics from Steel Borad Steel Plant across India are participating in this championship. The All India Inter-Steel Plant Championship will host games in 7 categories namely 100-metres, 400-metres, 800-meters, 2-km walk, long jump, triple jump and relay race (4×100-meters).
On the first day, 800-metres for men and Long jump (men) was orgnasied. Jatin Naik (Tata Steel) bagged the first position in 800-metres race whereas Deepak Verma (Tata Steel) clinched the first position in long jump category. The winners were awarded by Deepa Verma, Chief HRBP, Tata Steel and Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief Sports Excellence Centres, TFA and Sports, Tata Steel respectively.
Present on the occasion were, Bridhan Marandi, International Athlete, Long Jump, Tata Steel, Sanjay Singh, Chairman of Sports Advisory Committee, Tata Steel, Anand Louis Menezes, Senior Coach Athletics, TFA and Sports, Tata Steel along with officials from Tata Steel Sports Department.
On the second day of the championship, K Danayya of RINL clocked 11:46.87 seconds to clinch top spot in Men’s 2 Km Walk (Men). S Biswas of Durgapur Steel Plant finifinished second with 11:58.52 seconds while Lakhi Ram Mahato of Tata Steel had to content for third place with timing of 12:10.55 secs.
Shital Tudu of Tata Steel clinched the first place in Men’s 400 m race clocking 56.56 secs followed by his teammate Jatin Naik with a timing of 57.74 secs. Baban Gorai of IISCO finished third with 1:00.50 secs.
In the 800 M men’s event, Jatin Naik of Tata Steel grabbed the first place clocking 2:13.44 secs. His teammate Sanjeev Kumar came close to second place with a timing of 2:16.92 secs while Baban Gorai (IISCO) finished third with a timing of 2:19.09 secs.
In the long jump event, Tata Steel’s Deepak Verma leapt 5.43 mtr to claim first place. R. Harish of RINL jumped 5.31 mtr finished second while Ayush Utkarsh of Tata Steel had to content with third spot with a leap of 5.23 mtr.
