Palamu (Jharkhand): A 14-year-old girl was strangled to death allegedly by her freaky maternal uncle in Harbhonga village under Chainpur police station of Palamu district on Wednesday.
After committing the crime, the accused uncle Chotan Pandey hanged the body in a Gaushala to mislead the police by giving it the shape of suicide.
Chotan was absconding following the incident.
Police have launched a massive hunt to apprehend him, police said.
The victim’s father Deokumar Pandey and Chotan Pandey have long-standing personal enmity as well as over share of property.
On the Holi day, Deokumar along with wife had been to his native village in Bishnupura in Garhwa district after performing puja on the occasion Holi festival.
Deokumar was living in his in-laws village Dixit tola in Harbhonga village with his family.
Taking advantage of Deokumar’s absence, Chotan had taken his neice (the victim) to the Gaushala near her grandfather’s house and strangled her to death. After committing the crime, Chotan hanged the body to convince police that it was a case of suicide.
Later, the family members found the girl hanging and informed the police.
A police team rushed to the spot and recovered the body, which was sent to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital for autopsy, police said.
Officer-in-charge of Chainpur Udai Kumar Gupta said prima facie, it seemed a case of murder.
