Godda (Jharkhand): A large consignment of liquor being transported to Bihar illegally has been seized by Godda police, police said.
The police had information on Thursday night that a consignment of foreign liquor was being smuggled out in a Scorpio vehicle to Bihar via Pathargama and Basantrai of Godda district.
A police team was constituted to verify the information and intercepted a vehicle near Gopichak Mode. However, the driver of the vehicle sped away and took a turn towards village Raha.
Police gave a hot chase but the driver managed to escape under the cover of darkness leaving behind the suspicious vehicle near a primary school at Khurd Manjar, police said.
Following the checking of the vehicle, police said 30 bottles of 750 ML foreign liquor of Black dot finest grain brand whisky, 14 cartoons (each cartoon contains 24 bottles of 375 ML) and eight cartoons (each cartoons contains 48 bottles of 180 ML capacity).
Police also confiscated the vehicle bearing registration number BR22D 0006.
A case has been registered with Basantrai police stations 420/272/273/34 IPC and 47(a)/55 Jharkhand Excise Act, 1915.
