Medininagar: The department of Home, Prison and Disaster Management, Government of Jharkhand, suspended Internet services temporarily in Palamu district in view of prevailing communal tension in Panki town on Wednesday.
The nature of incident may lead to law and order breakdown in part of the state and it was expedient to temporarily suspend internet services (all types) in the district of Palamu to prevent use of this services by miscreants in spreading rumours, which may disturb the law and order of the state, it said.
The suspension remained effective from 4 pm of 15th February to 4 pm of 16th February (tomorrow).
Earlier, Palamu district administration imposed prohibitory order under section 144 CrPC in Panki under Palamu district after two groups belonging to different community clashed over installing a welcome gate for Shivratri festival on Wednesday morning.
The clashes have taken place at Panki bazar over erecting the welcome gate, which was opposed by rival group as the installation of the gate was being done near a masjid.
An altercation ensued between the groups and it turned violent soon as they indulged in brick-batting and attacking each other with lathis, a senior police officer told Inside Jharkhand news.
Official said some people from either community were detained.
Official said over six people have sustained injuries in the clash, which forced the administration to impose prohibitory order in Panki.
Senior district officials including the Deputy Commissioner A Dode were camping in the trouble-torn block and efforts were on to bring the situation back to normalcy.
Besides, heavy deployment of police force and RAF personnel as well as riot control vehicle were made to maintain law and order.
Police warned of stringent action against the mischief mongers and appealed masses to ignore canards.
However, the situation was stated to be tense but well under control, official added.
