Seraikela (Jharkhand): A FIR has been registered against about a dozen unidentified persons allegedly ransacking and damaging the property of Pata toll plaza in Chandil under Chandil police station of Seraikela-Kharswan district on Friday, a police official said.
About 10/12 unidentified persons were made accused in the FIR registered by the local manager of the toll plaza, police said.
The case was registered after supporters of Mahant Vidyanand Sarswati of Pardih Kali Mandir allegedly assaulted the staff members and ransacked the property last night.
On seeing the Mahant Vidyanand Sarswati sitting in the toll plaza booth, his supporters got infuriated and indulged in violent act, causing damage to the toll plaza to the tune of Rupees two lakhs.
In protest against the incident, the local residents expressed their anger over the incident by setting ablaze the effigy of the mahant for assaulting the tribal youths on duty.
The protestors also sought intervention of the district administration and demanded for a stringent action against the perpetrators.
The poor youths come from far-flung areas and work in the toll plaza for livelihood. It was not proper to assault the innocent youths, they said.
Meanwhile, a counter-case was also filed by the supporters of the Mahant in this regard, police added.
