Seraikela (Jharkhand): In yet another incident, a hawker hailed Murshidabad district of West Bengal was trampled to death by a wild tusker near Pilid forest under Ichagarh police station of Seraikela-Kharswan district on Monday afternoon.
The incident happened in the afternoon of Monday, probably the first such incident to take place in broad-daylight in Chandil Sub-division of the district.
The victim Asraful Haque, a resident of Tetulia village in Murshidabad, was a hawker, who used to travel village to village and sell goods in and around Ichagarh for past sometime.
While some villagers said the victim, on hearing the presence of a wild elephant nearby in the forest, was going to see it when he was attacked and killed by the pachyderm, other said he was justtrying to have a selfie with it when he was killed.
However, nothing was confirmed as yet as details of the incident was being awaited.
Meanwhile, efforts were on to chase the elephant away into the forest by a team of forest department.
Police has recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem in Sadar Hospital in Seraikela. In most of such incidents, it has been observed that the wild elephants attack and trample the villagers to death during night or in the wee hours but this happened in the afternoon, leaving the general masses to speculate how Asraful was killed by the tusker till the details of the incident was received.
